Men's Lacrosse Rallies, but Falls to Elizabethtown

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's lacrosse team rallied in the third quarter, but Elizabethtown College pulled away down the stretch to hand the Rangers a 12-5 setback in Landmark Conference (5-1, 5-1 LC) action Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.

The Blue Jays (5-1, 5-1 LC) led 8-1 at the half, only to see the Rangers rally with a 4-0 run, pulling to within three. But Etown ended the game on a 4-0 run.

Senior Michael McGeeney made 17 saves between the pipes for Drew, marking the third time in four games this season that he has stopped at least 16 shots. Senior Miles Savage went 13-for-21 on face-offs while classmate Jonny Bronander picked up four ground balls. Offensively, sophomore Craig Wilkie led the way with a pair or goals.

Mike Scrafano netted five goals and two assists for Elizabethtown.

After the Blue Jays scored the game's opening goal in the first minute of the contest, sophomore Kyle Weeks tied it up for the Rangers when they scored off an assist from freshman Kellum Foster-Palmer with 11:26 showing. But Etown answered with a 7-0 run over each of the two opening quarters to assume their lead at the break.

The Rangers found their spark in the third quarter, when freshman Michael Phillips got things started when he scored off an assist from fellow rookie Brett Spafford. Phillips then assisted on a goal from freshman Alex Higgins with 11:40 on the third-quarter clock.

Drew closed out its surge when Wilkie scored back-to-back tallies, with both coming off assists from freshman Connor Fair, as the Rangers made it an 8-5 game with 3:25 left in the quarter. But the Blue Jays snapped the surge when they scored the final goal in the quarter before tacking on three goals in the fourth quarter.

The Rangers (0-4, 0-4 LC) close out their regular season on Wednesday, when they host Moravian College in a makeup game starting at 7 p.m.
