MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University softball team will open postseason play when it competes in the Landmark Conference (LC) Championship tournament this weekend at the University of Scranton.
Six teams are vying for the conference crown and will compete at two different sites in double-elimination play. The fifth-seeded Rangers and third-seeded Catholic University will play at second-seeded Scranton while fourth-seeded Susquehanna University and sixth-seeded Juniata College will play at top-seeded Moravain College.
The Rangers will face Catholic at 11 a.m. in Game 1 of the Scranton pod. The winner of the game will take on Scranton at 1 p.m. in Game 2. The first elimination game will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Game 3, with the losers of Game 1 and Game 2 facing off.
The Scranton pod will conclude on Sunday, starting at 11 a.m. with Game 4, featuring the winners of Game 2 and Game 3. An "if necessary" Game 5 would immediately follow Game 4.
The winner of the two pods will advance to the Landmark Conference Championship Series, which will be held at the highest remaining seed on May 15.
The Rangers will be making their first postseason appearance since they competed in the ECAC Championships in 2014. Drew will be playing in the Landmark Tournament for the first time since the conference's inaugural season in 2008.
In the past, only the top four finishers in the Landmark Conference regular season qualified for the championships. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, every team is participating in this year's event. Juniata defeated seventh-seeded Elizabethtown 4-1 in the play-in game this past Thursday.
