Women's Soccer Posts Second Shutout at Drew Fall Festival

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's soccer team concluded a perfect showing at the Drew Fall Festival, posting its second straight shutout with a 3-0 victory over Coast Guard on Sunday in Ranger Stadium.

Though no team was officially awarded a title, Drew was the only squad in the four-team field to finish 2-0 after opening with a 3-0 win over Bard on Saturday.

With the victory, the Rangers improved to 3-1 on the season.

Three different players found the back of the net for Drew, including freshman Alexa Krause, who put the Rangers on the scoreboard in the 15th minute with her third goal of the season. Junior Emma Shatel set up the goal with a deep pass into the box from just inside midfield. Krause headed the ball to herself before punching in a ball past the keeper.

Drew doubled its lead in the 22nd minute, when junior Gabby Gilgorri converted a penalty kick for her first goal of the year. The hosts carried their 2-0 lead into halftime intermission.

The Rangers tacked on another goal for good measure in the second half, when sophomore Rebecca Racine tapped in a cross from Shatel in the 57th minute. The two sides played scoreless soccer over the final 33 minutes.

For the second game in a row, a pair of goalies split the time in net for Drew. Junior Anthi Panayides started and played the opening half, turning aside five shots. Freshman Amina Cirkiel played the second half and collected a pair of saves.

The Rangers return to action on Wednesday, when they visit Ramapo at 4 p.m. in another non-conference tilt.
