Men's Soccer Comes Up Short in OT

Purchase, N.Y. – The Drew University men's soccer team was narrowly edged out 3-2 in overtime by Manhattanville College on Saturday in a non-conference tilt.

The loss brings the Rangers to 2-3 on the season, while the Valiants notch their first win to improve to 1-3-1.

Twelve minutes into the game, the Rangers opened up scoring when sophomore Christian Tyson captured a pass in front of the net and drilled a shot to the left side for his second goal in the team's last three matches. Graduate student Ryan LaRocca earned his first assist of the year after setting up Tyson's goal with a picture-perfect pass.

After Manhattanville evened things up 16 minutes into the second half, both defenses hunkered down and kept things scoreless for the next 25 minutes.

Then, with less the five minutes left in the match, Drew seemed to put the game away after freshman Kevin Kiernan scored what would have been his second game-winning goal in a row. Assisted by Tyson, Kiernan managed to beat Manhattanville's keeper to the right side of the net to make it 2-1.

The Valiants, however, came right back and responded with a goal of their own off a penalty kick just 59 seconds later.

In the end, Drew couldn't pull out another goal, allowing Manhattanville to seal their victory with the game winner at 93:50.

Senior Alex Idrovo collected three saves for the Rangers, who outshot the Valiants 17-10.

Drew returns to action on Wednesday, when it returns to Ranger Stadium to take on Kean University at 4:30 p.m. in another non-conference outing.
