MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's soccer team blanked New York University for the first 72 minutes, but the Violets used a late goal to hand the Rangers a 1-0 setback in a non-conference tilt Saturday afternoon at Ranger Stadium.
NYU (2-2) snapped Drew's streak of three straight shutouts and 254 consecutive shutout minutes, dating back to the team's game at Stockton on Sept. 7.
The Rangers (4-2) appeared to have scored in the 22nd minute on a goal from freshman
Alexa Krause, but it was waved off due to an offside call. The Violets outshot the Rangers 5-0 in the opening half, but that's when junior
Anthi Panayides made all three of her saves.
Drew held NYU to just four shots in the second half. The Violets' goal was their only shot on frame in the period.
In the 52nd minute, Krause attempted the lone shot on goal for Drew but it was saved by NYU keeper Riley Felsher.
The Rangers return home on Tuesday, when they take on Centenary at 7 p.m. in another non-conference match-up.
