MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's soccer team rolled to its fifth win of the season with a 6-3 victory over Centenary in non-conference action Tuesday evening in Ranger Stadium.
Juniors
Gabby Gilgorri and
Ayla Lopez accounted for two-thirds of Drew's offense on the night. Gilgorri finished with two goals and one assist while Lopez contributed two goals as well.
Numerous other Rangers had big nights offensively, including freshman
Alexa Krause, who handed out a pair of assists. Sophomore
Rebecca Racine posted one goal and one assist while senior
Madi Precht also scored a goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Anthi Panayides started for the Rangers (5-2) and did not allow a goal in 54 minutes of action while making three saves. Sophomore
Brenna DeVoe played most of the second half and turned aside three shots.
Lopez handed the Rangers an early 2-0 lead, scoring twice over a seven-minute span early in the period. Krause assisted on her second tally.
Racine capped the first-half scoring when she converted a feed from Krause to make it a 3-0 game at the intermission.
The Cyclones (1-3) broke up the shutout in the 49th minute, but the Rangers came right back with three more unanswered goals. Gilgorri scored both of her goals in less than two minutes midway through the half - first on a dish from Racine, then on a penalty kick.
Gilgorri contributed to a third goal in a row when she sent in a corner kick that was headed home by Prect in the 72nd minute. Centenary set the final score with two late goals.
Drew continues its season on Saturday, when it hosts Juniata in its Landmark Conference opener starting at 1 p.m.
