Balanced Scoring Lifts Rangers Over Juniata

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's basketball team outscored Juniata 22-2 to start the second half, breaking the game open en route to a 79-53 Landmark Conference (LC) victory Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.

Senior guard Lybrant Robinson led all scorers with 15 points to go with three steals for the Rangers (11-6, 5-1 LC), who shot 64.5% from the field in the second half.

Five different players score in double figures to lead a balanced scoring attack for Drew. Sophomore guard James Anderson shot 4-for-7 from 3-point range to finish with a career-high 14 points while senior guard David Gervase and sophomore guard Andrew Turco netted 11 points apiece. Turco's effort also marked a career-high.

Sophomore guard Malcolm Newman posted 10 points and four assists while junior forward Howard McBurnie, Jr. registered a strong all-around performance with nine points, 14 rebounds, a career-high seven assists, three steals, and two blocked shots. Senior center Malachi Walker, Jr. blocked four shots while junior forward Michael Kane added nine points.

Evan Eisenhart scored 14 points to lead the Eagles (8-6, 1-2 LC).

It was a defensive battle early, and the Rangers led 13-6 with 8:30 left before Anderson provided a spark off the bench. He scored the next 11 points in just 1:50 for Drew, shooting 4-for-4 and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc to kick off a 13-3 Drew run. Kane nailed a jumper at the buzzer to put the Rangers up 30-16 at the half.

Gervase kickstarted Drew's decisive run at the beginning of the second period, scoring eight of the team's first 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Robinson provided a highlight when he came up with a steal and went end-to-end for a dunk, making it a 14-0 Drew run to start the half.

A put-back from Kane capped Drew's surge and gave the Rangers their largest lead of the game (52-18) with 13:24 remaining. After the Eagles whittled the deficit to 26, Drew settled any doubt with a late 9-2 run.

The Rangers close out a four-game homestand on Wednesday, when they host the University of Scranton at 7 p.m. in a rematch of last year's Landmark Conference championship game.
