FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Freshman
Elliot Parker and sophomore
Mike Ford broke or tied one school record apiece, leading the Drew University men's golf team on the second and final day of the Royal Lakes Invitational on Monday at Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club.
As a team, the Rangers shot a 297 to finish with a total score of 596 (299-297), good for a 10th-place finish in a competitive field of 22 schools. Drew has now broken 600 in three tournaments this season after achieving the feat once last year.
Parker shot a 2-under-par 70 for the second day in a row to finish with a stellar 36-hole score of 140, slicing two strokes off the previous Drew standard set last season by Ford and
Lucas Artigliere. Parker, who birdied six holes on Monday and nine for the tournament, finished four strokes behind medalist Tanner Bronnum of Birmingham Southern and ended up in a three-way tie for fourth place in a field of 124 golfers.
Meanwhile, Ford tied the Ranger record for the lowest 18-hole score, firing a 69 on Monday to equal the mark set by Artigliere last spring. Like Parker, Ford posted six birdies in Monday's round and nine over both days. He finished with a 145 (76-69) and tied three others for 20th place.
Artigliere was Drew's third finisher, tying for 69th with a 155 (74-81), while freshman
Matt Ingram rounded out the team's scoring, tying for 88th with a 158 (81-77). Freshman
Bryce Garnier also competed and tied for 99th with a 161 (79-82).
The Rangers return to action on Saturday and Sunday at The Melee, held at Riverview Country Club in Easton, Pa.
