ONEONTA, N.Y. – Six different players scored in doubles and the Drew University men's basketball team started its 2022-23 season on the right foot, topping SUNY Cobleskill 92-60 in the first round of the SUNY Oneonta Michael A. Freilich Tournament.
The victory gave first-year Head Coach
Michael McSloy his first win at Drew.
The Rangers will now take on tournament host Oneonta in the championship game at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Oneonta defeated Pratt 85-34 in the other first-round matchup.
Senior forward
Michael Kane scored a team-high 14 points for the Rangers, who shot 50.0% for the game and a red-hot 48.6% (17-for-35) from 3-point range. Junior guards
Andrew Turco (13 points) and
Malcolm Newman (12 points) also contributed offensively while senior forward
Howard McBurnie, Jr. posted a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Dante Harward added 10 points apiece off the bench for Drew, which outrebounded the Fighting Tigers 43-30.
The Rangers never trailed and were in command early on after outscoring Cobleskill 42-28 in the first half. Kane nailed a 3-pointer on the first shot of the second half and the Tigers were unable to get closer than 15 the rest of the way.
