Men's Volleyball Topped by Kean

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's volleyball team took on Kean University in its second home match in team history Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym. But despite making a season-high seven blocks, the Rangers came up on the short end of a 3-0 decision.

The Cougars (6-4) prevailed by scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-13.

Sophomore Omarf Ortega-Reyes led Drew (3-9) with 12 kills, six digs, three blocks (one solo), and two aces. Freshman Jacob Sledz contributed eight kills and seven digs while classmate Ephraim Smith tallied six kills. Freshman C.J. Addeo and junior Furat Alhayek threw down three blocks apiece, including a solo stuff for Alhayek. Freshman Huriel Perez dished out 27 assists.

Duncan Beilke posted 10 kills, six digs, and four blocks for Kean.

The Cougars jumped to a 6-2 lead in the opener and gradually pulled away. In the second set, it was the Rangers who had the quick start, opening on a 4-1 spurt. Kean would eventually take the lead; however, it remained close the rest of the way. It was tied 16-16, and the Cougars led just 23-22 before scoring two of the last three points to assume a 2-0 lead.

The visitors took control early in the third set, when it started on a 9-2 run.

The Rangers take a week off before hosting Sage College next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
