MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's basketball team posted one its top offensive performances in team history in a 117-69 victory over Moravian University in Landmark Conference (LC) men's basketball action Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym.
The Rangers (16-8, 10-3 LC) tied the second-highest scoring output in team history, falling just three points shy of the school record set versus Penn State Abington on Nov. 14, 2014. However, they did set a program record for the most points scored versus a Landmark Conference opponent.
With the win, Drew has clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Landmark playoffs and will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, Feb. 23 versus an opponent to be determined. The Rangers have finished among the top-two in the conference for the fourth year in a row.
Senior guard
David Gervase led Drew's offensive onslaught, scoring a career-high 29 points while shooting 11-for-16 from the floor and 7-for-10 from 3-point range. Sophomore guard
Malcolm Newman was also red-hot, ripping the nets for 23 points on 5-of-8 marksmanship from beyond the arc.
Fifteen different players found the scoring column for the Rangers, who also posted the third-most 3-pointers (19) and assists (29) in team history. Drew shot a season-high 61.8% from the floor.

Howard McBurnie, Jr. notched his 16th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 8-for-11 from the field. Junior forward
Michael Kane pitched in with 12 points and four assists while senior guard
Miles Lewis contributed career-highs of 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Danny Cooper scored 18 points to lead the Greyhounds (9-15, 4-9 LC).
Moravian led 7-6 three and a half minutes into the game before the Rangers caught fire, scoring 50 points over the rest of the half. Drew would shoot a blistering 62.5% from downtown in the final 16 minutes of the period, when Newman scored 16 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point territory. The Rangers broke the game open late in the period with a 19-3 run that pushed the team's lead to 28, and they carried a 56-30 lead into the locker room.
McBurnie nearly achieved his double-double in the first half, when he posted 10 points and eight rebounds.
Gervase put on a scoring clinic at the start of the second half, exploding for 16 points in the first 6:26 of the period. During the stretch, he shot 6-for-7 and connected on four-straight 3-pointers at one point. He helped fuel a 29-7 Drew run that settled any doubt. The Rangers would eventually lead by as much as 50.
The Rangers play their regular-season finale on Saturday, when they host Goucher College at 2 p.m. on Senior Day.
