MADISON, N.J. - In a match that lasted over five hours, Goucher College rallied to win its final two singles matches to capture the Landmark Conference men's tennis title with a 5-4 victory in the championship final on Sunday in the Simon Forum.
Trailing 4-3, the second-seeded Gophers (12-7) won at Nos. 5-6 singles to claim their fifth Landmark crown while receiving an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championships.Â
Goucher's Jackson Beam captured tournament MVP honors after clinching the match with a victory at No. 6 singles.
The top-seeded Rangers close out the year with a record of 18-4, finishing second in team history for wins in a season.
It was a tight match from the start, with two of the three doubles matches requiring a tiebreaker. Junior

Bret Schuler won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, but the Gophers used an extra set to win at both Nos. 2-3.
Singles action was just as close, as four of the six were decided in three sets. Junior
Leo Ambrogio opened with a 7-6, 6-1 at No. 4 to tie the match while closing out the year with his eighth straight win, placing his record at 15-3. Perera then picked up his second win of the day with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 to put the Rangers up 3-2.
The Gophers came back to tie it with a three-set victory at No. 2 singles before sophomore
Santo Carroccia rallied at No. 3 to put Drew back up 4-3. After dropping a 6-1 decision in the opening set, Carroccia rallied to win 6-2 and 7-5 to win his eighth match in a row as well, finishing at 15-5.
At No. 5 singles, Goucher's Calis Nguyen rallied to win after losing the opening set. Minutes later, Beam clinched it with a three-set victory of his own.
The Rangers were making their second-consecutive appearance in the Landmark Conference final after claiming the title last spring.
