Krause’s Hat Trick Lifts Rangers To 5-1 Win At Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Drew University's Alexa Krause netted her second career hat trick, lifting the Rangers to a 5-1 season-opening win at Manhattanville on Thursday in women's soccer action.

Next up for Drew (1-0) is the home opener on Sunday when they face Centenary at noon.

Drew broke through for its first goal on its initial shot of the season. Krause put the Rangers on the scoreboard with 5:05 expired, cashing in on an assist from Isabella Grof-Tisza. The hosts countered to knot the score at 1-1 with a tally from Natalie Aracena in the 10th minute.

Just past the midway mark of the half, Drew pressed for the go-ahead goal when Sam Kievit fired a shot wide and seconds later Valiant goalie Macey Girard corralled a shot by Gabby Gilgorri. The visitors reclaimed their lead with 9:11 left in the half when Krause took a pass from Rebecca Racine and touched the ball past Girard for her second score of the half.

Ranger keeper Anthi Panayides protected Drew's one-goal lead going into the half, denying Aracena's bid for her second tally of the contest with just over a minute showing on the clock.

In the second frame, Drew increased the advantage to 3-1 when Racine struck for her first goal of the season off a pass from Delaney Timm. Krause completed the hat trick in the 57th minute after Gilgorri set up the tally with a nice rush up the field. Kat Kugler closed out the scoring for the Rangers with 13:04 left in the game, as she bodied in a ball at the right post on a play that began on a free kick near midfield. Grof-Tisza picked up her second assist on the play.

Panayides backstopped the victory with four saves.

The Rangers held a 17-6 advantage in shots and took all four corner kicks.
