HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Drew University men's golf team opened its 2022-23 season with a bang, shooting a school-record 291 (+3) in the opening round of The Gauntlet on Sunday at Dauphin Golf Course.
The first round is not officially complete, as three teams were unable to finish due to darkness. However, among teams that have finished, the Rangers find themselves tied with McDaniel College for second place, trailing Washington & Jefferson College by just one stroke.
The team's previous record of 294 was first shot at the Dickson Invitational on Sept. 23, 2019, then at The Kiln Intercollegiate on April 2, 2022.
Leading the way for Drew was freshman
Bryce Garnier, who fired 1-under-par 71 on the strength of four birdies and 12 pars. He enters Monday's final round three strokes behind co-leaders Ryan McGarry of McDaniel College and Colin Robinson of Washington and Jefferson College.
First-year
Matt Ingram also enjoyed an impressive collegiate debut, carding a 73. He posted 14 pars and two birdies. Junior
Myles Cherry also shot a 73, tying his career-low. He posted one birdie and parred 14 holes, including the entire back-9.
Senior
Lucas Artigliere rounded out the team scoring with a 74 while sophomore
Mike Ford, who birdied two holes, shot a 75. Freshman
Shiv Bhaskar also competed as an individual and birdied three holes en route to a 78.
