Drew Nets 2-0 Victory Over Kean

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's soccer team scored a goal in each half, securing a 2-0 victory over visiting Kean on Sunday during the second day of the Drew Fall Festival.

The Rangers (4-1) conclude their five-game homestand on Wednesday, hosting Ramapo at 7:00 p.m.

The teams played a defensive-minded match through the first 30 minutes of the contest, combining for only three shots on goal. Drew broke through with the game's initial score with 8:12 remaining in the half, as Delaney Timm directed a long service into the Cougar restraining area that Rebecca Racine headed inside the right post for her fourth tally of the season.

In the second half, Drew took advantage of a free kick to double its lead to 2-0. Emma Shatel used her left foot to blast a restart from about 40-yards out that Cougar goalie Julia Masucci could only get a piece of before the ball entered the net with 19:25 showing on the clock.

Shatel nearly netted her second goal of the game with just over 13 minutes remaining, cutting up the middle of the field and putting a shot off the post.

Drew goalie Anthi Panayides made the two-goal cushion stand, finishing with four saves to notch her second shutout of the season. Masucci also had four stops for Kean.

The Rangers held a 14-5 advantage in shots and took all four of the game's corner kicks.

This marked Drew's first win over the Cougars since the 2003 season, with Kean coming away with victories in the five meetings in that span.
