Big First Half Leads Women's Soccer Past Ramapo

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's soccer team scored three times in less than 10 minutes late in the opening half, as the Rangers earned a 3-2 triumph over visiting Ramapo College on Wednesday.

Drew (5-1) returns to the field on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a road contest at New York University.

The Roadrunners grabbed the lead midway through the opening period when Carla Goodwin one-touched a cross from the right side by Sam Ingannamotre with 25:28 on the clock.

Drew's Alexa Krause quickly put the hosts in front, tallying a pair of goals just over four minutes apart. Her first came with 12:49 left before the half when she lofted a long shot into the upper-right corner of the net after a throw-in by Emma Shatel. Krause netted her second of the contest minutes later, after settling a short pass from Isabella Grof-Tisza. That goal was her ninth of the season, setting a new career high.

Drew tacked on one more goal before the half with 3:31 on the clock, as Rebecca Racine laced a shot on goal that Roadrunner goalie Emma Conlan denied, but the Ranger collected her own rebound and notched her fifth score of the season.

In the second half, Racine had a bunch of chances, firing one bid just over the net with two others hitting the crossbar.

Ramapo had a great chance to get on the scoreboard when Goodwin raced toward the Drew net on a breakaway, but keeper Amina Cirkiel stepped out to make the save.

The Roadrunners added a late goal with five minutes remaining when Lauren Vladyka collected the ball at the top of the penalty area and tucked a shot under the crossbar.

Drew goalie Anthi Panayides played the opening half and made two saves, while Cirkiel had three stops in the final 45 minutes. Conlan finished with 11 saves for the Roadrunners.

The Rangers held a big 28-8 advantage in shots and had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
