NEW YORK – Senior
Anthi Panayides made a career-high eight saves, but the Drew University women's soccer team lost by a final of 1-0 at New York University in a non-conference tilt Saturday afternoon.
NYU improved to 2-0-3 with the win while the Rangers moved to 5-2
The Violets scored the game's only goal early in the second half, when Dominique Bevacqua netted an unassisted tally in the 51st minute.
Less than a minute following the goal, junior
Rebecca Racine fired off Drew's second and final shot on goal but had it saved by Riley Felsher.
NYU threatened for much of the half, but Panayides turned aside the final six Violet shots on goal.
The two sides combined for just three shots on goal in the opening period. Sophomore
Alexa Krause put a shot on frame in the 13th minute but was denied by Tyler Hawkins. Panayides stopped both NYU offerings in the first half.
Drew continues its season next Saturday, when it visits Goucher College at 4 p.m. in its Landmark Conference opener.
