HARRISBURG, Pa. – For the second day in a row, the Drew University men's golf team turned in a record-breaking performance, as they shattered the Drew standard for 36 holes on Monday at The Gauntlet, held at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course.
After firing a school-record for 18 holes (291) on Sunday, the Rangers came back with another stellar performance on Monday, finishing with a 293. Their final total of 584 is eight strokes better than the previous program best of 592 set this past spring at The Kiln Intercollegiate.
Drew also came incredibly close to capturing the team title, as they placed just one stroke behind McDaniel. Washington & Jefferson (586) and Dickinson (587) rounded out the top-four.
The highly-competitive tournament saw all but three of the 14 teams break 600 for the event.
Leading the way for Drew was freshman
Bryce Garnier, who carded a 71 for the second day in a row to finish tied for fifth with a 2-under 142, tying the school record set by teammates
Lucas Artigliere and
Mike Ford at The Kiln last spring. On Monday, Garnier birdied four holes on the front-9 alone in which he shot a blistering 32. He finished the round with six birdies.
Finishing second for the Rangers was freshman
Matt Ingram, who shot a 73 for the second day in a row and tied for 17th in the 75-man field, posting a 146. Junior
Myles Cherry tied for 21st with a 147 (73-74) while Ford completed the team scoring with a 150 (75-75), tying for 29th.
Artigliere was also in action and tied for 35th with a 151 (74-77) while freshman
Shiv Bhaskar competed as an individual and tied for 29th with a 150 (78-72).
Daniel Suter of Gettysburg claimed the individual title with a 139 (69-70).
The Rangers are back in action on Saturday and Sunday, when they compete at the Farmingdale State George Cangero Invitational, held at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y.
