FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – For the third consecutive round to open the season, the Drew University men's golf team broke 300, carding a 299 on the first day of the George Cangero Invitational, hosted by Farmingdale State College at Bethpage State Park.
The Rangers find themselves tied for sixth place among 10 teams. Franklin & Marshall leads the team standings with a 280.
Six of Drew's seven competitors were freshmen. Three made their collegiate debut, including
Elliot Parker, who fired an impressive 1-over-par 71. He is currently tied for seventh place among 60 competitors.
First-year
Matt Ingram is tied for 27th with a 75 while rookie
Bryce Garnier is tied for 32nd with a 76. Senior
Lucas Artigliere rounded out the team scoring with a 77, which puts him in a tie for 40th.
Freshman
Daniel Holden was also competing and finished with an 82 in his collegiate debut. Additionally, freshman
Ryan Ricci is golfing as an individual and is tied for 32nd after opening with a 76.
Franklin & Marshall's Shane Lawler and St. Thomas Aquinas' Nolan Skaggs are tied for the individual lead with a 67.
The second and final round will be contested on Sunday.
