Women’s Volleyball Sweeps William Paterson

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's volleyball team hit .374 and served up 14 aces en route to a 3-0 sweep of William Paterson University in a non-conference tilt Thursday evening in Baldwin Gym.

The Rangers (7-4), who won their third match in a row, posted their second-best hitting percentage of the season.

Drew has now reached double figures in aces in 11 of their 14 matches and leads the Landmark Conference with 3.28 aces per set.

The Blue and Green used a balanced offensive attack, with sophomore Andrea Camacho-Tenreiro leading the way with nine kills. Junior Leila Ksiyer contributed eight kills and just one error on 14 attempts for a .500 hitting night while also scooping 11 digs. Freshman Marissa Guajardo also racked up eight kills while hitting .417 and firing up three aces.

Also for Drew, sophomore setter Jasmine Butler recorded 28 assists, 10 digs, and a career-high seven kills, and classmate Lauren Gaza had 12 digs while tying a career-best with five aces.

The Rangers never trailed in either of the first two sets. They raced out to a 10-2 lead in the opener before breaking it open with an 8-1 run that made it 22-9.

Another fast start propelled Drew in the second set, as the Rangers opened on an 11-3 run. After the Pioneers (4-7) closed the gap to 13-11, Drew ended the match on a 12-3 surge.

William Paterson scored the first point of the final set for its only lead of the match. But the Rangers answered with a 9-1 run and led by at least five the rest of the way.

Drew is back in action on Saturday, when it travels to Stockton University for a tri-match. The Rangers take on Stockton at 1 p.m. before playing Arcadia University at 3 p.m.
