Women’s Volleyball Tops Stockton in Rematch, Nearly Rallies Past Arcadia

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Drew University women's volleyball team avenged a loss to host Stockton University, then nearly rallied from a 2-0 deficit to Arcadia University in a non-conference tri-match on Saturday.
 
The Rangers (8-4) defeated Stockton 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23), nine days after the Ospreys earned a 3-2 victory on the same court.
 
In its second match of the day, Drew dropped its first two sets to Arcadia, 25-20, 25-23, before storming back with 25-17, 25-15 victories. But the Knights prevailed in a barnburner of a fifth set, 19-17.
 
Versus Stockton, sophomores Ashley Carkhuff and Andrea Camacho-Tenreiro led the offensive charge with a combined for 33 kills. Carkhuff finished with 17 kills and just five errors on 39 attempts for a .308 hitting percentage. Camacho-Tenreiro contributed 16 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Jasmine Butler distributed 41 assists and 12 digs while classmate Lauren Gaza scooped 35 digs. Junior Leila Ksiyer fired up four aces, and freshman Marissa Guajardo contributed three blocks.
 
Against Arcadia, the Rangers jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the deciding set, only to see the Knights climb back into it with a 5-2 spurt. Drew twice served for match point but Arcadia held on to push its record to 11-3.
 
Drew posted a big blocking performance versus Arcadia, racking up a school-record 15 rejections. Junior Melina Christodoulou set the individual school record with nine blocks (four solo) while throwing down 11 kills. Carkhuff posted 14 kills and 21 digs while hitting .306, and Camacho-Tenreiro tallied 14 kills and 19 digs. Butler passed out 40 assists while Gaza recorded 35 digs.
 
The Rangers are back in action on Tuesday, when they host Baruch College at 7 p.m.
