ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Junior
Omarf Ortega-Reyes recorded the first triple-double in Drew men's volleyball history and the Rangers came away with a split at Bard College on Saturday.
Drew (1-2) opened the day with a 3-1 victory over Bard, winning 25-22, 25-12, 19-25, 25-22, then lost 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-20) to Emmanuel (Mass.) College.
Ortega-Reyes posted his milestone performance versus Bard, finishing with 12 kills, 14 assists, and 10 digs.
Sophomore
C.J. Addeo led a big blocking performance for the Rangers, who finished with a school-record of 15 – some seven more than the program's previous best set in its season opener versus Misericordia earlier in the week. Addeo threw down a team-record 10 blocks while classmate
Ephraim Smith added nine kills and seven stuffs. Freshman
Jason Barbosa contributed four blocks (two solo), and sophomores
Jacob Sledz and
Bryan Do added 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Against Emmanuel, Smith led the Rangers with 10 kills while Ortega-Reyes posted seven kills, 13 assists, and 14 digs. Drew notched seven more blocks versus the Saints, with Addeo knocking down four more. Sophomore
Huriel Perez distributed 12 assists.
Drew continues its season on Thursday, when it hosts John Jay College starting at 7 p.m.
