Men’s Volleyball Serves Up Sweep of John Jay

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's volleyball team tied a school record with 15 service aces and the Rangers swept John Jay College, 25-10, 25-17, 25-19 Thursday evening in Baldwin Gym.

Junior Omarf Ortega-Reyes led the serving effort for the Rangers (2-2), firing up a team-record seven aces. He also dished out 14 assists.

Sophomore C.J. Addeo also registered a big performance, throwing down a career-high eight kills without making an error on 10 attempts for an .800 hitting night.

Classmate Jacob Sledz added seven kills, 13 digs, and three aces for the Rangers while sophomore Huriel Perez handed out 12 assists.

Stephan Daly and Logan Ramos posted four kills apiece for the Bloodhounds, who were playing their season opener.

In the first set, the Rangers led just 4-3 before breaking it open with a 14-4 run. Drew recorded five of its aces in the period, with two coming from freshman Tynoah Ehia.

Ortega-Reyes netted three of his aces early in the second set as the Rangers jumped to a 7-3 lead. He would add another late in the second stanza as Drew piled up six aces during the set.

The final set was never in question as the Rangers bolted to a 9-1 lead. Drew would lead by as much as 11, and though the 'Hounds pulled to within five late in the set, it was too little too late.

The Rangers are back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Russell Sage College for a tri-match. Drew takes on Wells College at 2 p.m. and Russell Sage at 4 p.m.
