LITITZ, Pa. – The Drew University men's golf "B" team recorded a fifth-place finish among 13 teams on Monday at the Franklin & Marshall College Invitational, held at Bent Creek Country Club in Pennsylvania.
The Rangers fired a 315 and placed behind only Franklin & Marshall "Blue" (299), Swarthmore (301), Dickinson (302), and Franklin & Marshall "White" (302). Drew finished in front of Stevenson (317), Lebanon Valley (332), Rutgers-Camden (332), Cabrini (341), Dickinson "B" (342), Penn State Abington (353), Lancaster Bible (356), and Neumann (366).
Sophomore
Austin Chilles paced the Rangers, firing a 3-over-par 74 – a collegiate-best by four strokes – to finish just three strokes off the lead while placing sixth in the field of 67. On the strength of three birdies, he shot an impressive 34 on the back-9.
Freshman
Thomas Hurley was Drew's next finisher, tying for 14th with a 77, which included four birdies on the back-9. Classmate
Liam Larkin tied for 26th with an 80, and classmate
Ray Kim tied for 41st with an 84. Senior
Ryan Firman was also in action and posted a 95.
Dickinson's Peter Lown and Shane Lawler of Franklin & Marshall "Blue" tied for first with a 71, but Lawler was awarded medalist honors on a card comparison of the third hole.
The Rangers return to action on Wednesday, when the "B" team competes at the Melee, held at Berkleigh Golf Club in Kutztown, Pa.
