SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton scored a goal in the 51st minute and it proved to be the difference as the host Royals edged the Rangers 1-0 in Landmark Conference action Tuesday evening.
The Rangers (8-5-2, 4-3 LC) held a 14-4 shot advantage, but Scranton keeper Charlie Smith recorded six saves to post a shutout.
Drew outshot the Royals 8-3 in the opening half, when Smith collected four of his stops.
Scranton (8-2-4, 2-2-3 LC) broke through on their first shot of the second stanza, when Patrick Wells sent in a header off a corner kick from Alex Kozdron.
The Rangers held a 6-1 surplus in shots during the second half, but Scranton allowed only two shots on frame in the period.
Junior
Kevin Kiernan led Drew with six shots for the game, including three that were on goal.
Sophomore
Brandon Jachera posted one save in goal for the Rangers.
Drew continues its Landmark Conference schedule on Saturday, when it visits Lycoming College in a 1 p.m. start.
