Conference-Leading Lycoming Tops Men’s Soccer

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Kevin Kiernan scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season, but Landmark Conference frontrunner Lycoming College edged the Rangers 2-1 in a conference matchup on Saturday.

With 12 points, the Rangers (8-6-2, 4-4 LC) are now in fourth place in the Landmark Conference standings with one regular-season match remaining. Drew has clinched a spot as one of the six teams to qualify for the upcoming conference championship

The Warriors (10-3-4, 7-0-1 LC) struck first, scoring in the 20th minute, but Kiernan answered 17 minutes later to pull the Rangers even. However, Kenny Clapp scored the game-winner for Lycoming in the 71st minute and Lycoming went on to capture the first-ever matchup between the two sides as Landmark Conference opponents. The two teams were MAC Freedom Conference rivals prior to the Rangers joining the Landmark Conference in its inaugural season in 2007.

Lycoming held a slim 7-6 edge in shots while the Rangers posted a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Brandon Jachera made two saves for Drew while Nick Wilke stopped five shots for the Warriors.

The Rangers play their regular-season finale next Saturday, when they visit Susquehanna University at 1 p.m.
