Women’s Volleyball Topples Lycoming in Landmark Conference Finale

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's volleyball team inched closer to its first-ever berth in the Landmark Conference Championship tournament with a 3-1 victory over Lycoming College in its Landmark Conference regular-season finale on Saturday in Baldwin Gym.

The Rangers won by scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 25-15.

Drew closed out conference play with a 5-4 conference record and is currently in fourth place by conference winning percentage in the Landmark standings. The top-six teams will qualify for the Landmark Conference Championships this season.

The Rangers finished with 13 blocks – tied for second-most in team history – with six different players posting at least one block.

Sophomore Teeya Desgoutte turned in yet another big performance for the Rangers, posting 21 kills to go with eight digs, five service aces, and five blocks. Sophomore Marissa Guajardo contributed 12 kills and seven blocks, sophomore Emily Shirk tallied eight kills, 17 digs, and three blocks, and freshman Alyssa Rachwal distributed 40 assists. Junior Kiara Vasquez served up four aces while classmate Lauren Gaza scooped 38 digs – a school record for four sets. Sophomore Inaya Stanford added six blocks.

Jessica Ahart and Brynne Bisel paced Lycoming with 10 kills each.

Vasquez recorded all four of her aces in the opening set to help put the Rangers on top early. The Warriors bounced back to outscore the Rangers 15-8 to start the second set, then held off a late Drew rally in which it pulled to within 23-20.

The Rangers were in control over the final two sets, when they trailed only once. They used a 7-2 run midway through the third set to assume a commanding 19-11 advantage and went on to post six of their blocks in the period. Drew closed the match on a flurry, opening the final set on a 16-5 run.

Drew returns to play on Friday, when it hosts Arcadia University at 7 p.m. in a non-conference affair.
