MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's volleyball team posted impressive rallies to win each of the first two sets en route to a 3-1 win over Hunter College in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening in Baldwin Gym.
The Rangers trailed by eight early in the first set before coming back to win 25-23. Then in the second set, the Hawks led 19-9 before Drew erased the deficit with a 15-5 run and an eventual 28-26 victory. After Hunter claimed the third set 25-23, the Rangers clinched the match in the fourth set, winning 25-18.
Junior
Lauren Gaza and freshman
Alyssa Rachwal tied or set one team record apiece for the Rangers. Gaza served up seven aces, tying the school record while also posting 24 digs. Meanwhile Rachwal distributed 51 assists to shatter the previous Drew standard by five.
Sophomores
Teeya Desgoutte and
Marissa Guajardo paced the offensive attack with 18 kills apiece for Drew, which hit a season-best .235. Guajardo, who also threw down three blocks, made just two errors on 38 attempts for a stellar .421 hitting performance. Desgoutte – who also collected 15 digs – committed only five errors on 41 swings for a .317 night.
Sophomore
Emily Shirk added nine kills for the Rangers while junior
Kiara Vasquez contributed 11 digs.
Tionna Moss paced Hunter (12-4) with 16 kills.
The Rangers take on a pair of Landmark Conference opponents at home this weekend, facing Elizabethtown College on Friday at 7 p.m. and Susquehanna University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
