WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior
Christian Tyson scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season, but the Drew University men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 Landmark Conference decision at Catholic University on Saturday.
The Rangers (6-4-2, 2-2 LC) outshot the Cardinals 17-8, but Catholic's Owen Allegro finished with five saves.
Catholic (6-5-1, 3-0-1 LC) scored just 47 seconds into the match on a goal from Gordie Bernlohr, but the Rangers pulled even in the 14th minute on Tyson's tally, which was set up by a pass from sophomore
Jared Brown.
The Cardinals answered in the 26th minute, when Domenico Caltabiano converted a penalty kick and it was a 2-1 game at the half.
The Rangers held an 11-3 shot advantage in the opening half, when Allegro made three of his stops.
Catholic scored the final goal in the 53rd minute, but eight minutes later freshman
Jacob Avni turned aside a shot to keep it a two-goal game.
Drew threatened midway through the half, firing off a pair of shots on goal six minutes apart but were unable to dent Allegro.
Junior
Kevin Kiernan led the Rangers with six shots for the game, including two that were on frame.
Drew picks up its schedule on Tuesday, when it visits Moravian University at 7 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
