WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Drew University women's soccer team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end with a 4-1 setback at Catholic University on Saturday in Landmark Conference action.
Sophomore
Molly Kuhn scored a goal in the 24th minute for the Rangers (8-5, 3-1 LC), who were dealt their first Landmark Conference loss of the season.
Catholic (6-4-2, 2-1-1) held an 18-13 shot advantage, but both teams placed seven shots on frame. Ava Rieger made six saves for the Cardinals while freshman
Sarah Crowley stopped three shots for Drew.
The hosts struck first, scoring five minutes apart to assume a 2-0 lead with 24:23 left in the opening half. However, the Rangers got on the scoreboard three minutes later, when Kuhn finished off a feed from senior
Rebecca Racine for her first goal of the season, and it was a 2-1 game at the half.
The Cardinals outshot the Rangers 10-6 in the opening half and held just an 8-7 edge in the second period. But Rieger stopped all four Drew shots on goal in the final 45 minutes while the hosts added insurance goals in the 62nd and 86th minutes.
Crowley collected all three of her saves in the second half.
Junior
Alexa Krause and senior
Emma Shatel each took a pair of shots on goal for the Rangers.
Drew resumes its schedule on Tuesday, when it hosts Moravian University at 7 p.m. in a Landmark Conference affair.
