MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's lacrosse team was handed a 25-4 setback by Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium.
Sophomore
Mike DeMayo scored a pair of goals for the Ranges (1-1) while junior
G.J. Nazziola won 14-of-28 face-offs and picked up seven ground balls.
Matthew Pergola led Stevens (1-0) with six goals and one assist while Jack Savarese netted five goals and two assists.
DeMayo scored the game's first goal off an assist from freshman
Colin Diodato before Stevens answered with three straight goal. But later in the quarter, junior defenseman
Tyler McCarthy launched a clearing pass over the defense and into the stick of sophomore
Luke Bruther, who raced in and buried a man-down goal to make it 4-2 after one quarter of play.
The Ducks broke it open with a big nine-goal second quarter and led 13-3 at halftime. DeMayo struck again early in the quarter, finishing off a pass from senior
Craig Wilkie.
Stevens tacked on six unanswered goals in the third quarter, then added six more in the final period. Junior
Brett Spafford converted an unassisted tally early in the final stanza for Drew.
The Rangers are back in action on Saturday, when they visit Albright College at 3 p.m. in another non-conference matchup.
