MADISON, N.J. – Playing without its two setters, the Drew University men's volleyball team battled hard but lost 3-0 to Ramapo College Tuesday evening in Baldwin Gym.
 
The Roadrunners (5-6) won by scores of 25-13, 25-11, 25-20.
 
The Rangers (6-7) received six kills from sophomore Ephraim Smith while classmate Jacob Sledz, filling in at setter, finished with 14 assists, nine digs, and two aces. Sledz, Smith, junior C.J. Addeo and senior Furat Alhayek threw down two blocks apiece while sophomore Bryan Do scooped 11 digs.
 
Andrew Finnegan led Ramapo with 11 kills.
 
The visitors never trailed on the night after getting out to quick leads in each set. Ramapo led 7-1 in the final period; however, the Rangers found a spark and rallied to make it a two-point match (11-9) following an ace from Addeo. After the Roadrunners scored the next three points, Drew came back again and twice trailed by only three, the last coming at 18-15 after a kill from Smith. But that's when Ramapo used a 5-2 spurt to pull away.
 
The Rangers return to action on Thursday, when they visit Wilkes University at 7 p.m.
