SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – Freshman
Daniel Holden shot a 6-over-par 150 to capture medalist honors by four strokes, leading the Drew University men's golf team in the second and final round of the Sandhills Splash at Longleaf Golf Course in North Carolina.
The Rangers, competing in their spring break match, finished second among four teams with a 36-hole score of 639 (321-318), eight strokes behind Landmark Conference foe Catholic University. Drew's "B" team finished third with a 650 (324-326) and was followed by conference opponent Goucher College 652, 326-326) and Cabrini University (667, 345-322).
Competing for Drew's "B" team, Holden entered Wednesday leading by four strokes after carding a 73 on Tuesday, when he fired three birdies. He finished with a steady 77 on Wednesday in which he parred 13 holes.
Freshman
Shiv Bhaskar shot a 154 (77-77) and tied Catholic's Colin Coogan for second. Rounding out Drew's team score were freshman
Elliot Parker, who tied for sixth with a 159 (83-76), junior
Myles Cherry, who tied for 10th with a 162 (80-82), and sophomore
Mike Ford, who took 14th with a 164 (81-83). Senior
Lucas Artigliere also competed for the "A" team and tied for 15th with a 166 (83-83).
Twelve of Drew's 13 golfers competed in the tournament. Also playing for the Ranger "B" squad were freshman
Ryan Ricci, who tied for sixth with a 159 (80-79), junior
Matvey Pangan, who tied for 22nd with a 173 (82-91), freshman
Austin Chilles, who placed 27th with a 175 (96-79), and freshman
Max Conklin, who was 28th with a 182 (89-93). Junior
Ryan Firman was also in action as an individual and tied for 22nd with a 173 (82-91).
The Rangers continue their season on March 18-19 at the Ruckus, which will be held at Williamsburg National Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia.
