Men’s Volleyball Stopped by Kean, Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Drew University men's volleyball lost a pair of matches on Saturday at Elizabethtown College.

The Rangers (9-19) lost by scores of 28-26, 25-15, 25-21 to Kean and 25-13, 25-21, 25-22 to Elizabethtown.

In the opener, sophomore Jacob Sledz posted seven kills and 12 digs while freshman Tynoah Ehia notched seven kills and nine digs. Sophomore Huriel Perez handed out 25 assits, and classmate Bryan Do recorded 13 digs.

The Rangers bounced back in the opening set after falling behind 5-0. Drew came all the way back to tie it at 20-20 on blocks from Ehia and sophomore C.J. Addeo. Drew would tie on six more occasions in a nailbiter of a finish. But with the score tied 26-26, the Cougars scored the last two points on a service error and a kill.

In the second set, the Rangers trailed just 11-10 before Kean went on a 10-2 run to break it open. The final game was a nip-and-tuck affair early, and Drew led 10-9 after a kill from Sledz. But Kean scored the next three points and never trailed again, though the Rangers kept it close. A kill from Ehia made it 22-19 and a setting error made it 24-21, but Kean won it with a kill.

Against Elizabethtown, sophomore Ephraim Smith led the Rangers with nine kills and six digs while Ehia notched five kills and four digs. Perez distributed 21 assists, and Do scooped 10 digs.

Drew led 2-1 early in the first set following a kill from Adeo and an ace from Perez. But the Blue Jays answered with a 13-3 run and led by at least seven the rest of the way.

The Rangers bounced back and started well in the second set, leading 13-10 midway through it. But Etown responded with an 11-4 run.

In the final set, the Rangers trailed 13-4 but rallied all the way back to make it 18-17 on a kill from Sledz. An Ehia kill made it 23-22 but the hosts scored the final two points.

The Rangers close out their season next Saturday with a tri-match at Juniata College. The Rangers face Elmira College at 3 p.m. before taking on third-ranked Juniata at 5 p.m.
