MADISON, N.J. – Senior
Christian Tyson scored in the first half, but SUNY New Paltz answered with a pair of second-half tallies and handed the Drew University men's soccer team a 2-1 setback on the opening day of the Drew/FDU Fall Festival on Friday at FDU-Florham.
In the 21st minute, Tyson converted a pass from junior
Kevin Kiernan, and it would be the last goal until the Hawks pulled even on a penalty kick from Joseph DiPrata in the 69th minute. DiPrata would add another gal in the 77th minute, and it turned out to be the game-winner.
Sophomore
Brandon Jachera made his collegiate debut in goal for the Rangers and made three saves.
New Paltz finished with a 10-5 edge in shots. Tyson and Kiernan each took two shots for the Rangers.
In the other Fall Festival game, FDU and Saint Elizabeth played to a 1-1 tie.
The tournament's final two games will be held at Drew on Sunday. New Paltz takes on Saint Elizabeth at 3:30 p.m. before the Rangers face FDU at 6 p.m.
