HARRISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore
Elliot Parker turned in a jaw-dropping performance at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course on Monday.
The 2022-23 All-American fired a seven-under-par 65 on the second and final day of The Gauntlet, rallying from six strokes back to win by a single stroke. His incredible final round included birdies on seven holes and pars on the other 11.
Parker, who averaged a 75.3 in his debut last season, opened the tournament with a 73 and finished with a 138. He sliced three strokes from his own 18-hole school record and two strokes from his 36-hole Drew standard. Parker edged out Carter Hassenplug of Allegheny (69-70=139) and Jason Velez of York (Pa.) (71-68=139).
As a team, the Rangers tied Penn State Altoona for eighth place among 14 teams with a 589 (298-291) – the second-best 36-hole score in team history.
Franklin & Marshall won with a 574 (288-286), just one stroke in front of Randolph-Macon (281-294).
Junior
Mike Ford was Drew's second finisher, shooting a 146 (74-72) to tie for 22nd in the field of 75. He birdied four holes on Monday.
Ford was followed by sophomore
Shiv Bhaskar, who tied for 59th with a 154 (74-80), while freshman
Avery Cohen (81-75) and senior
Matvey Pangan (77-79) tied for 68th with a 156. Senior
Myles Cherry also competed as an individual and parred his last nine holes to tie for 40th with a 149 (75-74).
The Rangers are back in action next Monday, when a "B" team competes at the FDU-Florham Invitational.
