MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's volleyball team led for most of the third set against Stockton University, but the Ospreys rallied late en route to a 3-0 victory over the Rangers in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening in Baldwin Gym.
Stockton (3-5) won by scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-22.
Sophomore
Teeya Desgoutte led the Rangers with nine kills while sophomore
Abigail Pereira contributed with five kills. Junior
Lauren Gaza posted a double-double of 21 assists and 16 digs, classmate
Genevieve Sarinelli recorded 14 digs, and sophomore
Emily Shirk posted three blocks.
Rileigh Wilson paced the Ospreys with 11 kills while Teleyah Witherspoon had five blocks.
In the opening set, Stockton never trailed after scoring the first six points. The Rangers jumped to an 11-8 lead in the second set, but after a timeout the visitors used a 5-0 spurt to claim a lead they would not relinquish.
Drew raced to a 9-3 lead in the third set, when Desgoutte threw down four of her kills. The Rangers led by as much as seven on two occasions, the last coming at 15-8 following Desgoutte's third kill of the set. However, that's when Stockton used a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to two.
The Ospreys came all the way back to tie at 19-all – the first of four ties down the stretch. Desgoutte's final kill put the Rangers up 22-21, but Stockton answered with the final four points.
The Rangers are back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Union College for a tri-meet. Drew takes on Skidmore at noon before facing Union at 4 p.m.
