Men’s Soccer, TCNJ Play to 1-1 Tie

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore defender James Cahill scored a goal for the Rangers, but The College of New Jersey answered in the 83rd minute and the two sides played to a 1-1 tie in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium.

Drew (2-1-2) played a man up starting in the 19th minute, when TCNJ (2-3-1) received a red card. After a scoreless first half, Drew broke through when Cahill delivered in the 72nd minute with a deep shot from the left wing that found its way into the lower-right corner.

It was the second goal in three games for Cahill, who also scored the game-winner in a 3-2 victory at Western Connecticut one week earlier.

The Lions would have the answer, however, when Colin Kenville tapped in a rebound following a shot off the left post.

The Rangers would take two shots the rest of the way, including a blast from sophomore Gabe Di Pierro in close that sailed just high of the net.

Drew held advantages in shots (13-10) and corner kicks (5-1). Freshman Jacob Avni made four saves in his first collegiate start for the Rangers while Julian Franco stopped seven shots for TCNJ.

The Rangers pick up their schedule on Saturday, when they visit Manhattanville College at 12:30 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
