Tyson Scores Twice as Rangers Blank Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior Christian Tyson scored two goals and the Drew University men's soccer team blanked Manhattanville College 2-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon.

The Rangers (3-1-2), who posted their second shutout in three games, are now unbeaten at 3-0-1 over their last four matches.

It was the fourth career multi-goal game and the second this season for Tyson, who also struck twice in the team's 2-2 tie versus FDU-Florham earlier this year.

The Rangers outshot the Valiants 18-8 and placed 13 shots on frame, but Jake Rothleubbers made 11 saves for Manhattanville (0-3-2).

Freshman Jacob Avni collected two saves to earn his second career shutout for Drew.

Tyson provided all the scoring his team would need when he found the back of the net in the 20th minute. It remained a 1-0 game for nearly the rest of the match.

The Rangers held a slim 5-4 shot advantage in the first half before turning up the pressure in the second period, when they peppered the net with 13 shots, including 10 that were on goal. However, Rothleubbers stopped the first nine shots he faced until Tyson set the final score with two seconds on the clock.

Drew continues its season on Wednesday, when it hosts Vassar at 7 p.m. in another non-conference affair.
