Men’s Golf Competes Well at Rhodes; Wins at Moravian

TUNICA RESORTS, Miss. and BETHELEHEM, Pa. – The Drew University men's golf team tied for 11th in a highly-competitive field of 17 schools at the Rhodes College Invitational, held Sunday and Monday at Tunica Resorts, Mississippi.
 
Meanwhile, the Rangers "B" team won the Moravian University Weyhill Classic, beating out nine other teams.
 
At Rhodes, Drew competed in its first 54-hole event in team history and shot an 899 (291-317-291). The squad was led by freshman Nicky Riscica, who turned in a stellar performance. Making his collegiate debut, he tied for seventh among 89 competitors, carding a 4-over-par 220 (71-77-72).
 
Sophomore Shiv Bhaskar was the second finisher for the Rangers, tying for 32nd with a 226 (70-76-80) and tying his collegiate-low in the opening round. Freshman Avery Cohen was just two strokes back, tying for 40th with a 228 (76-82-70).
 
Senior Myles Cherry and junior Mike Ford were also in action and tied for 56th with a 233. Cherry shot 77-82-74 while Ford posted scores of 74-84-75.
 
Rhodes captured the team title with an 878 (286-291-301) while Huntingdon College was second with an 886 (297-296-293). Brayden Weiss of Wabash College claimed medalist honors with a 214 (71-70-73), edging out Jan Wdowka of Webster College by one stroke.
 
At Moravian, the Rangers shot a 316 in wet conditions to outdistance runner-up Moravian by eight strokes.
 
Leading the way for Drew was the trio of sophomore Austin Chilles, freshman Thomas Hurley, and freshman Ray Kim, each of whom shot a 6-over-par 78 to finish in a tie for fifth among 55 golfers.
 
Sophomore Ryan Ricci wrapped up the team scoring, placing 17th with an 82. Sophomore Max Conklin also competed and tied for 29th with an 86.

The Rangers continue their season Oct. 2-3 at the Royal Lakes Invitational, hosted by Oglethorpe University, at Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club in Flowery Branch, Georgia.
