Early Goals Send Rangers to Fourth Straight Win

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's soccer team scored a pair of early goals and held on to beat Elizabethtown College 2-1 in a Landmark Conference matchup Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.

The Rangers (7-4, 2-0 LC) earned their fourth straight win while improving to 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2013.

Junior Alexa Krause finished with one goal and one assist, junior Kat Kugler scored a goal, and freshman Sarah Crowley finished with eight saves for Drew.

Krause put the Rangers on the scoreboard in the 12th minute. Picking off a pass from the goalkeeper, she slipped by a defender and booted home a shot inside the right post for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Eight minutes later, Krause sent a cross from the left side of the field to Kugler inside the box. Kugler buried a shot from close range into the right side of the net for her sixth tally of the season, making it 2-0.

Drew controlled possession in the opening half and held advantages in shots (8-5) and corner kicks (5-2).

Elizabethtown (2-6-1, 0-2 LC) found a spark in the second period, when it outshot the Rangers 6-4. The visitors made it a one-goal game in the 60th minute on a goal from Sydney Reich.

The Blue Jays continued to threaten after the goal, when it placed four shots on goal. However, they were unable to dent Crowley, who sealed the win with a stop on a well-struck ball from Maddie McWhinney in the final minute.

Drew edged Etown 12-11 in shots and 7-2 in corners.

The Rangers return to action on Tuesday, when they visit Landmark Conference newcomer Wilkes University at 7 p.m.
