Kugler, Rangers Rally Past Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Kat Kugler scored twice over a two-and-a-half minute span in the second half and the Drew University women's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 Landmark Conference victory at Moravian University Wednesday evening.

With the win – the team's second in a row – the Rangers (5-4-4, 2-1-2 LC) now find themselves in a three-way tie for second place in the Landmark Conference standings with eight points.

It was the second career multi-goal outing for Kugler, who also scored twice in a 3-1 victory over Merchant Marine on Sept. 13, 2022.

The Rangers held a 16-14 edge in shots, though Moravian posted a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore Sarah Crowley made five saves for the Rangers while Riley Spingler also stopped five shots for the Greyhounds (6-3-5, 1-1-3).

Moravian took the lead in the 21st minute on a goal from Kylie Hughes. Drew outshot the 'Hounds 8-4 in the opening half, but only two of Drew's shots were on frame and it was a 1-0 game at the intermission.

Moravian went on to outshoot the Rangers 10-8 in the second half; however, Crowley turned aside all four Greyhound shots on goal in the period.

In the 64th minute, senior Alexa Krause sent in a corner kick from the right side, and graduate student Rebecca Racine headed a pass to Kugler in front of the goalie. Kugler drilled the ball out of the air and inside the right post for her first goal of the season.

Less than three minutes later, Krause blasted a long shot off the crossbar. Spingler attempted to bat the ball out of the box, but it found its way to Kugler. She cashed in once again, slamming home a shot just inside the right post and out of the reach of a diving Spingler for her fourth career game-winning goal.

The Rangers continue Landmark Conference play on Saturday, when they visit Goucher College at 1 p.m.
