Men’s Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Drew University men's soccer team was handed a 2-0 setback at Elizabethtown College in a Landmark Conference tilt on Saturday.

It was a scoreless game before the Blue Jays (3-5-2, 1-1 LC) Matt Miller scored in the closing minutes of the opening half. Pedro Guizardi added an insurance tally six minutes into the second period.

Elizabethtown finished with a 9-8 edge in shots, with Pedro Miranda making three saves to earn the shutout. Graduate student David Hoyt stopped a pair of shots for the Rangers (6-4-2, 0-2 LC).

Each team placed one shot on goal in the first half. Sophomore Kevin Martinez drilled a shot from the left side on a breakaway in the 11th minute that Miranda went to the ground to save before Hoyt smothered a shot taken off a long pass in the 28th minute.

Junior James Cahill took both of Drew's shots on goal in the second half. But Miranda made a diving, fingertip stop on a blast from the outside in the 54th minute before stopping a low rip in the 74th minute.

Hoyt kept the Rangers within striking distance with his final stop, which came in the 59th minute.

Drew resumes Landmark Conference action on Wednesday, when it visits Wilkes University at 7 p.m. in the final match of a seven-match road trip.
