NEW YORK – The Drew University men's track & field team opened its 2024-25 indoor season at the TCNJ Indoor Opener on Saturday at The Armory.
The meet kicked off the second year of varsity competition for the Rangers.
Turning in the top individual finishes with one fourth-place showing apiece were sophomores
Thomas Edwards and
Zach Mogambi and freshman
Owen Browne.
Edwards was timed at 4:38.17 in the mile while competing in a field of 20. Meanwhile, Mogambi recorded a mark of 14.79 meters (48-6 1/4) in the weight throw while taking one eight other competitors. His performance bettered his own school record of 13.30 meters.
Mogambi also finished sixth out of 14 competitors in the shot put with a heave of 13.29 meters (43-7 1/4).
Browne made history as the first Ranger to compete in the pole vault. He cleared 4.30 meters (14-1 1/4), a mark that would have placed him third on last year's Landmark Conference indoor performance list. He was the second Division III finisher, placing behind an unattached competitor, a Division I athlete, and Catholic University's Christian Di Nicolantoni, last year's NCAA Division III outdoor champion.
Sophomore
Adian Hanson added a tremendous showing in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 7.07 in the final to finish fifth in a field of 50 competitors. His time also improved upon the school record from last season. In addition, he bettered his own Drew record in the 300-meter dash, winning his heat with a time of 36.09 while placing eighth overall in a field of 38.
Freshman
Matt Ellis recorded a fifth-place showing, as well clocking a 4:42.27 in the mile.
Sophomore
Jeff Ayeh-Datey added an eighth-place finish, as he was timed at 7.10 in the final of the 60 meters.
The Rangers continue their season on Friday, when they travel to the Wagner College Seahawk Shootout at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
