UNION, N.J. – Junior
Jacob Sledz posted season-highs of 17 kills and 11 digs, but the Drew University men's volleyball lost 3-0 at Kean University Wednesday evening.
The Cougars won by scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-21.
Sledz made just four errors on 36 swings for a .361 hitting percentage.
Senior
Omarf Ortega-Reyes handed out a season-high 19 assists to go with seven digs for the Rangers while junior
Huriel Perez distributed 10 assists. Sophomore
Destan Llolla added nine digs.
Jack Freese led Kean (7-6) with 11 kills.
The Rangers trailed just 14-11 in the opening set before Kean nudged ahead with a 4-0 run. Drew trailed 21-14, but stormed back with a 6-1 run to pull within two. However, the Cougars held off the Rangers down the stretch.
Kean also used a run midway through the final two sets to open up some breathing room. In the second set, the hosts led by only two before a 7-3 surge gave them a 16-10 advantage, and they would lead by at least four the rest of the way.
The final set was tied at 15-all before the Cougars used a 4-0 surge to pull ahead, and they would hold at least a three-point lead for the remainder of the set.
Drew continues its season on Thursday, when it hosts Pratt at 7 p.m.
