MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's volleyball team received contributions from 12 different players and the Rangers defeated Pratt Institute 3-0 on Thursday in Baldwin Gym.
Drew won by scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-21.
Junior
Jacob Sledz led the Rangers with eight kills while freshman
Casey Connolly totaled seven kills and five digs. Senior
Ephraim Smith was close behind with six kills, and he did commit an error on 10 attempts for a .600 hitting night.
Freshman
Trevor Wilson recorded 15 assists and three aces for the Rangers while senior
Omarf Ortega-Reyes added 10 assists. Freshman
Nathaniel Bustos contributed five digs for the Rangers.
Jason Raymond posted seven kills to lead the Cannoneers (2-4).
Drew bolted to a fast start in each set. In the opener, they led 4-0 and 9-3 before using a 5-0 run to open up a 19-7 advantage. Then in the second set, the Rangers raced to a 9-4 lead before a 4-0 spurt gave the Blue and Green a commanding double-digit lead (17-7).
The Rangers outscored Pratt 7-3 to start the final set, only to see the Cannoneers rally with a 6-0 run midway through the stanza to tie it at 15-all. It was still tied at 19-19 before Drew closed the match on a 6-2 run.
Drew continues its season on Friday, Feb. 23, when it visits Rutgers-Newark at 7 p.m.
