Zeer, DeMayo Lift Rangers Over Albright In Home Opener

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore Riley Zeer posted five goals and two assists while junior Mike DeMayo poured in four goals and three assists, vaulting the Drew University men's lacrosse team to a 22-9 victory over Albright College in its home opener at a blustery Ranger Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday but was rescheduled due to snow.

A total of 11 players scored at least one goal for the Rangers (1-1), who outshot the Lions 57-42.

Seniors Kellum Foster-Palmer and Michael Thomas, junior Charlie Collins, and sophomore Jake Cornelius scored two goals apiece for the Rangers while junior Joey Larmore handed out three assists. Senior GJ Nazziola won 16-of-29 faceoffs and picked up eight ground balls while also scoring a goal, and sophomore Sawyer Kennedy made eight saves.

Nick Antonio and Joost Van Der Horst scored three goals apiece for Albright (1-1).

Drew, which posted its fifth-highest (tied) scoring output in team history, trailed just once on the day, when it was 1-0. The Rangers outscored the Lions 5-1 over the remainder of the quarter, with Collins and Zeer scoring two goals each.

The hosts continued to pour it on in the second quarter, tossing in five more goals to assume an 11-4 halftime advantage. Five different players accounted for Drew's five goals in the period.

The two sides each scored four times in the third quarter as the Rangers led 15-8 heading into the final stanza. Balanced scoring did the trick again, with four different players scoring in the quarter for Drew.

The Rangers settled any doubt by reeling off seven unanswered goals in the fourth quarter while shutting out the Lions until they scored with 31 seconds left. DeMayo and Thomas each scored twice in the quarter for Drew.

Drew continues its season on Saturday, when it visits Marywood University at 1 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
