Men’s Lacrosse Stifles Marywood in Road Victory

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Drew University men's lacrosse team used stifling defense to earn a 9-3 road victory over Marywood University in a non-conference tilt Saturday afternoon.
 
The Rangers (2-1), who opened the game on a 7-0 run, blanked the Pacers in the first half and limited their opponent to just 12 shots on goal.
 
Sophomore Sawyer Kennedy and freshman Joe Barnish split the time in goal for Drew. Kennedy made a pair of saves without allowing a goal over the first half while Barnish stopped seven shots in the second half.
 
Seven players scored a goal for the Rangers. Sophomore Riley Zeer posted two goals and one assist while senior Tommy Larmore also scored twice. Junior Joey Larmore contributed one goal, two assists, and seven ground balls while classmate Mike DeMayo added one goal, one assist, and six ground balls.
 
Colin Trainor made 11 saves for Marywood, which was playing its season opener.
 
The Rangers controlled the first quarter, outshooting the Pacers 9-2. Tommy Larmore and DeMayo scored one goal apiece and led 2-0 after 15 minutes of play.
 
Drew tacked on three more goals in the second quarter, receiving tallies from senior Kellum Foster-Palmer, Zeer, and senior Brett Spafford to assume a 5-0 halftime advantage.
 
The Rangers continued their run into the third quarter, when Zeer and junior Charlie Collins each cashed in to make it 7-0 with 7:08 on the clock. Marywood stopped the bleeding with consecutive goals, but Tommy Larmore scored again to make it 8-2 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
Joey Larmore netted Drew's final goal with 13:51 left, and the score remained 9-2 until the Pacers scored inside the final two minutes.
 
The Rangers are back in action on Wednesday, when they host Gwynedd Mercy College at 7 p.m. in another non-conference affair.
