Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Bard on Senior Night

MADISON, N.J. – Senior Omarf Ortega-Reyes celebrated Senior Day in style, turning in a stellar all-around performance while leading the Drew University men's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Bard College Tuesday evening.

The Rangers (12-11) won by scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-9. Playing its final home game of the season, Drew finished with an 8-2 record in Baldwin Gym.

Drew has now won three more games than any other team in program history since Drew men's volleyball became a varsity sport in 2022.

Ortega-Reyes, Drew's lone senior, was recognized before the match with numerous family members from his native Puerto Rico. He won on to record 22 assists, seven kills (with no attack errors), four blocks, and three service aces.

Sophomore Andrew DuHaime also had a strong showing for the Rangers, posting 10 kills and five digs, while junior Ephraim Smith notched four kills, four aces, and five digs. Freshman Casey Connolly contributed four kills and freshman Jesus Cuautle Perez scooped nine digs. Sophomore Jason Barbosa contributed with three blocks.

Angel Obergh paced the Raptors (8-14) with seven kills and seven digs.

The Rangers never trailed the entire night and jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the opening set. Bard scored the next three points before the Rangers answered with a 10-1 run to open up a commanding 16-6 lead, the Raptors were unable to get closer than seven the rest of the set.

The first half of the second set was close and the Raptors trailed only 15-13 before a 6-0 run put Drew firmly in control again, as the Rangers led by at least five over the remainder of the stanza.

It was all Rangers in the final set, when Drew did not commit an attack error. The hosts opened on a 9-2 run, and the lead eventually ballooned to 16-4 as the Rangers won their fourth match in a row and for the fifth time in the last six matches.

Drew continues its season on Saturday, when it travels to King's College for a tri-match. The Rangers take on Hood College at 2 p.m. and King's at 4 p.m.
