ABARTA Invitational
WASHINGTON, N.J. and EASTON, Pa. – The Drew University men's golf team competed in two different tournaments on Sunday.
The squad's "B" team competed in the second and final round of the Garden State Collegiate Classic at Hawk Pointe Golf Club and placed fifth out of 10 teams with a 634 (327-307). In addition, Drew's primary team opened play at a Division I match, shooting a 313 on the opening round of the ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Lafayette College at the Northampton Country Club.
At the Garden State Classic, sophomore
Liam Larkin was Drew's top finisher, tying for 12th place in the field of 54 with a 12-over-par 156. He fired three birdies and shot a season-low 74 on Sunday after opening the tournament with an 82.
Sophomore
Ryan Ricci and senior
Myles Cherry were the next two finishers for the Rangers, as each tied for 15th with a 158. Ricci (81-77) carded a season-low score in the second round while Cherry shot 80-78.
Senior
Matvey Pangan and freshman
Ray Kim each shot a 162 to tie for 24th. Pangan went 84-78 while Kim posted scores of 82 and 80.
Also competing for the Rangers were freshman
Thomas Hurley, who shot a 169 (89-80), sophomore
Max Conklin, who recorded a 177 (84-93), and senior
Ryan Firman, who registered a 180 (94-86).
Franklin & Marshall College shot a 610 to edge McDaniel College by one stroke for the team title. Gus Vickers of Stevens claimed medalist honors with a 2-under 143 (73-70).
For the "A" team, sophomore
Elliot Parker led the Rangers in the opening round. He birdied three holes and shot a 1-over-par 73, which places him in a tie for 14th in a field of 81.
Junior
Mike Ford was Drew's second-best finisher, carding a 78 to place him in a tie for 44th. Freshman
Eric Castner shot an 80 and is tied for 61st while sophomore
Shiv Bhaskar rounded out the team scoring with an 82. Freshman
Nicky Riscica is also in action and opened with an 83.
Lehigh University's Will Caronchi leads the field by three strokes after opening with a 5-under 67. Lehigh shot a 288 and holds a seven-stroke lead in the team standings.
The Rangers conclude tournament action on Monday starting at 9 a.m.
